This Privacy Policy explains how ChatShelf, published by YOUR PUBLISHER NAME (“ChatShelf,” “we,” “us” or “our”), handles information when you use the ChatShelf Chrome extension and related website.
ChatShelf helps users save, organize, search and reopen selected conversations from supported AI chat services. The extension works locally by default. Google account connection and Google Drive backup are optional. If you do not agree with this policy, do not use ChatShelf.
1. Information ChatShelf handles
Saved library content
When you choose to save a conversation, ChatShelf may handle:
- the conversation or page title;
- the page URL;
- prompt or conversation text selected or detected on the supported page;
- the source AI service;
- a collection name;
- an optional image or thumbnail;
- creation and update times;
- manual card order; and
- the date an item was moved to Trash.
ChatShelf processes this information only to create and manage the saved library you requested.
Extension settings
ChatShelf stores settings needed to provide the interface, including the selected theme, card layout, sort order and library organization preferences.
Google account information
If you choose Sign in with Google, ChatShelf may receive your Google account name, email address, profile image and an OAuth access token supplied through Chrome's Identity API.
The account details show which Google account is connected. The access token communicates with Google APIs for the requested cloud-sync feature. ChatShelf does not receive or store your Google password.
Google Drive backup
If you enable Google cloud sync, ChatShelf uploads a backup of your saved library and settings to the private app-data folder of your own Google Drive account. The backup may contain saved titles, URLs, prompt text, collection names, thumbnails and related library metadata.
ChatShelf does not request access to browse, read, modify or delete your ordinary Google Drive files.
2. How information is collected
ChatShelf handles information:
- when you explicitly choose Save current chat;
- when you add, edit, copy, reorder, restore or delete a saved item;
- when you change extension settings;
- when you choose to sign in with Google; and
- when optional Google Drive synchronization uploads or restores the library.
ChatShelf does not continuously record your general browsing history, keystrokes, mouse movement or activity on unrelated websites.
3. How information is used
Information is used only to:
- save and display conversations you choose to keep;
- organize, search, filter and reorder the saved library;
- copy saved prompt text;
- reopen saved conversation links;
- provide Trash and automatic 30-day Trash cleanup;
- remember interface preferences;
- display the connected Google account; and
- provide optional Google Drive backup and restore.
We do not use ChatShelf information for behavioral advertising, user profiling, lending decisions, creditworthiness or purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
4. Where information is stored
Local storage
By default, saved library content and settings are stored locally using Chrome's extension storage on your device.
Optional Google Drive storage
When Google cloud sync is enabled, a backup is also stored in the private app-data folder of your Google Drive account. Google processes that data under its own terms and privacy policies.
ChatShelf does not operate a separate developer-owned server or database for storing your saved library.
5. Data sharing and transfers
We do not sell, rent or trade user data.
ChatShelf transfers information to Google only when necessary to provide the account and Drive synchronization features that you choose to enable. Information may also be disclosed when required by applicable law, to protect users or the service from fraud or security threats, or as otherwise permitted by applicable policy and law.
We do not transfer user data to advertising platforms, data brokers or information resellers.
No person is permitted to read a user's saved library except with the user's explicit consent for specific support, when necessary for security or legal compliance, or where otherwise permitted by applicable policy and law.
6. Google API Limited Use disclosure
ChatShelf's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy and the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information received from Google APIs is used only to provide or improve the user-facing account and cloud-sync features. It is not used for personalized advertising, retargeting, unrelated profiling, creditworthiness or lending purposes.
7. Data retention and deletion
Local library
Saved items remain in local extension storage until you delete them, clear the extension's storage or uninstall the extension. Items moved to Trash are automatically removed after 30 days unless restored earlier.
Google Drive backup
Signing out stops Google synchronization but does not automatically delete an existing cloud backup. You can remove ChatShelf's hidden app data through Google Drive's application-management settings or contact support@yourdomain.com for guidance.
Uninstalling ChatShelf removes local extension storage according to Chrome's behavior, but may not remove a backup already stored in Google Drive.
Account information and access tokens
Google profile information is used in the extension interface while the account is connected. On sign-out, ChatShelf clears its active connection and asks Chrome to remove the cached OAuth access token used by the extension.
8. Security
ChatShelf uses Chrome extension storage for local data and HTTPS connections for Google API communication. Google authentication is handled through Chrome's Identity API and Google's OAuth system.
We take reasonable steps to limit access and use only the permissions required for ChatShelf's features. However, no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
9. Your choices
You can:
- use ChatShelf without signing in;
- review or edit information before saving it;
- delete individual saved items;
- restore items from Trash before automatic deletion;
- export a local backup;
- sign out of Google cloud sync;
- remove the extension; and
- delete hidden ChatShelf app data through Google Drive settings.
10. Children's privacy
ChatShelf is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required in the user's country. We do not knowingly collect information from children for advertising or profiling.
11. Third-party services
ChatShelf can interact with third-party services chosen by the user, including Google Drive and supported AI chat websites. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. ChatShelf is not responsible for their independent privacy practices.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when ChatShelf's features, permissions or legal obligations change. The updated version will be posted here with a revised “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how information is handled, we will provide additional notice where required.
